The British Museum Unveils Silk Roads
a review of the ambitious new show plus two recipes for spiced tea
Welcome back to Journeys Beyond Borders. As you know, I use this weekly newsletter to share writing with you about places that I love and return to for journalism, research and simple enjoyment. And while the geographical spread of this Substack extends, like my books, from Eastern Europe to Central Asia it very occasionally strays elsewhere.
That is the case this week as we go to London and to the new blockbuster exhibition Silk Roads at the British Museum.
It is a sprawling show, travelling from Japan to England, though collectively presented in one large room “to reflect the flow of ideas and goods,” as one curator explained.
By reviewing the exhibition here, I hope to offer an introduction to those of you who have plans to go, while discussing some of the highlights for readers who can’t make it.
Thanks as ever for being here.
