Taste of Place
Impressive Central Asian and Georgian Cafés, from Istanbul to Philadelphia, plus a recipe for Uyghur-style braised tofu
This week, rather than travel to just one destination, as this newsletter usually does, we’re going to six different places. The reason for this twist is simply because in the past few months I’ve eaten some really good Georgian, Central Asian and Uyghur food in various cities and I’d like to share them in a one-off roundup.
So, first to Istanbul for a low-key Uyghur spot, then to Riga for exceptional Uzbek manti, onwards to London to try out a new Uyghur restaurant, and to nearby Reading for Georgian flavours, and then across the Atlantic to New York for Tajik qurutob and lastly to Philadelphia for excellent Georgian khinkali and lobio (beans).
